Marry or Relax in paradise
The Bahamas have some of the most spectacular wedding and honeymoon spots you can imagine. You can choose either to enjoy your honeymoon in the same venue as your wedding, or move to a different island and hotel.
Nassau, Paradise Island
These shining beacons are the main islands of The Bahamas which have glamour aplenty as well as simple/island chic. Here you’ll discover high rolling casinos, sophisticated nightlife and plush hotels. The country’s capital, Nassau, is situated on the island of New Providence. One of the most popular places to stay is nearby Cable Beach, known as the Bahamian Riviera. With more than two miles of beachfront, couples can check into small boutique hotels right through large resorts. Honeymooners can hire a horsedrawn carriage and take a romantic tour of old Nassau.
Paradise Island is connected to Nassau by a spectacular road bridge – ‘Cross the bridge and enter paradise’ so the saying goes. The awe-inspiring Atlantis Resort dominates the skyline.
Find decadence in abundance and with one of the world’s largest outdoor aquariums, home to 50,000 marine creatures from sharks to turtles. Paradise Island is also the pick up point for the Dolphin and Sea Lion Encounters at Blue Lagoon and exhilarating Powerboat Adventures down to the Exuma Cays.
Love is in the air at The 14th century Augustinian Cloister in the Versailles styled gardens on Paradise Island.
Grand Bahama Island
As one of the closest islands to the Florida coastline, Grand Bahama Island combines international influences with stylish Bahamian simplicity. Honeymooners will find everything from extravagant hotels and casinos to sleepy villages and remote underwater caves. The capital, Freeport, has tree-lined boulevards and an International Bazaar full of duty-free bargains. Lucaya is the other hub with a great straw market and lively evenings. Nature lovers will be in paradise on this island with adventure safaris around the Lucayan National Park which has the largest underwater cave system in the world.
Love is in the air at...
• The pristine and divine Taino Beach. Visit on Wednesdays for fish fry evening.
• Take a kayak for two through the mangroves and sand dunes of Gold Rock Creek.
The Out Islands
The Exumas are made up of 365 islands and cays strung out like jewelled stepping-stones across more than 120 miles of ocean and have been the location for not one, but two James Bond movies. The main settlement of George Town on Great Exuma has a pretty 19th century Anglican church, available for island weddings. The Exumas may be castaway, but they are home to some of the most exclusive private island resorts in the world.
Eleuthera and Harbour Island
110 miles long it has lush pineapple plantations, spectacular surf beaches on the Atlantic side, grottos and hidden caves and a genuine old Bahamian way of life. Just a 10-minute boat ride away is the quaint enclave of tiny Harbour Island, a magnet for rock stars, actors and royalty. Elle Macpherson and India Hicks both have houses here. Within the pretty clapboard houses of
Dunmore Town, known as the Nantucket of the Caribbean, are sophisticated island boutiques, gourmet restaurants, boutique hotel gems and nightlife at Vic Hums and Daddy Ds.
Many more Out Islands
And, there are many other Out Islands on which to marry or honeymoon ... The Abacos, Bimini, Cat Island, Long Island, San Salvador ... to name a few.
