About the Bahamas

The beauty of the Bahamas not only lies in the breathtaking clear blue waters and white sands but the diversity of destination wedding locations from which to choose.  Our vast options of settings and venues mean we have something for everyone.  Want your toes in the sand?  Prefer a lush, tropical garden scene?  Thinking a grand tent is more your speed?  We’ve done it all and love working across the many islands that make up The Bahamas.

Why the Bahamas?

The Bahamas offers an authentic island wedding setting you and your guests won’t soon forget.  Here are a few more reasons to get married here.

Ease of Travel

While the stunning beauty of the Bahamas may seem worlds away, we’re very close to the Florida coastline. Which means you’ll spend less time in the air and more time celebrating in the sand. There are direct flights to major islands from New York, Atlanta, Florida, Toronto, London.  And many of the smaller islands can be accessed by boat — or consider a private plane or yacht for a unique travel experience.

Variety of Wedding Locations

While known for our sun and sand, the islands also boast tropical gardens, marinas, historic homes, stunning restaurants, boutique hotels, and large resorts.

Simple Marriage Requirements

With a no-hassle wedding process, the country welcomes legal wedding ceremonies from the United States, Canada, Europe, and beyond. Chic Bahamas Weddings’ director, Marva Munroe, assists all clients with acquiring a marriage license and more for a completely seamless experience.

Culture & Adventure

Exploring the natural beauty of the Bahamas is part of the fun. However, The Bahamas also has a bustling nightlife, charming art colonies, world-class dining, and boutique shopping. Couples can swim with pigs on Exuma, gamble with guests on Paradise Island or Cable Beach, dive for conch off the coast off Harbour Island, or completely unplug on any number of the Out Islands. No matter what kind of wedding or honeymoon you seek, The Bahamas offers an array of activities and a warm and friendly culture.

At Chic Bahamas Weddings, we create individual itineraries designed for your unique lifestyle so that your celebration reflects the vacation of your dreams.

Once you’ve said “I do” to getting married in the Bahamas, consider all your island options!

The Out Islands

Don’t forget, there are many Out Islands on which to host a destination wedding!  The Abacos, Bimini, Cat Island, Long Island, and San Salvador, are just a few! Moreover, these islands offer a unique and more unplugged event setting where you and your guests can enjoy the laid-back lifestyle of the tropics with the utmost privacy. For couples seeking that off-the-beaten-path island wedding experience, these exotic destinations —  complete with beautiful beaches and unique ceremony sites — are perfect for you.

The Abacos

Quaint, private, intimate, chic are all appropriate ways to describe the Abaco Islands, known throughout the world as a premier sailing and boating destination. The Abacos are made up of a 120-mile long chain of islands.  The “mainland” of Great Abaco Island and Little Abaco are separated from the barrier islands by the shallow and calm Sea of Abaco.

The Abacos are the perfect getaway for honeymoon couples and destination wedding groups seeking a truly relaxing experience.  At the same time, it’s great for those who want a low-key Abaco Bahamas wedding adventure. Diving, snorkeling, fishing, and more are available to explorers, while tiny artist colonies, charming hotels, and the picturesque candy-striped lighthouse (a favorite of photographers) in Hope Town.

Eleuthera and Harbour Island

Eleuthera is the setting for lush pineapple plantations, picturesque grottoes, hidden caves, beautiful hotels, and spectacular surf beaches on the Atlantic side. Spanning 110 miles in length, it’s the very picture of the classic Bahamian way of life. Just a 10-minute boat ride away is the laidback enclave of Harbour Island, a magnet for celebrities, many of whom own homes here. Nestled among the pretty clapboard houses of Dunmore Town (known as the “Nantucket of the Caribbean”) are sophisticated island boutiques, gourmet restaurants, well-appointed accommodations.  There’s also the nightlife at popular spots like Vic Hums and Daddy Ds.

The Exumas

Explore the 365 individual islands, stretched like bejeweled stepping stones across 120 miles of ocean that have been the location for two James Bond films. The main settlement of George Town, located on Great Exuma, features a picturesque 19th century Anglican Church and is a popular location for island ceremonies. The Exumas may seem remote, but they’re home to some of the most exclusive private island resorts worldwide, providing the ultimate setting for an extravagant celebration.  Plus, Exuma offers a colony of pigs you can swim with in the wild if you’re up for an adventure.

Grand Bahama Island

One of the closest islands to the Florida coastline, Grand Bahama Island seamlessly balances Bahamian simplicity with eclectic international influences. Honeymooners can spoil themselves at lovely hotels and while discovering sleepy villages and remote natural treasures. The capital city of Freeport features tree-lined boulevards.  Lucaya, the other hub of Grand Bahama Island, is a nature lover’s paradise.  Furthermore, safaris around the Lucayan National Park (which boasts the largest underwater cave system in the world) await. Be sure not to miss Lucaya’s fantastic straw market and lively evening activities!

Looking for a little romance? Take a kayak for two through the mangroves and sand dunes of Gold Rock Creek. Or, explore the pristine Taino Beach (visit on Wednesday for a much-loved fish fry evening)!

Nassau and Paradise Island

Known as the crown jewel of the Bahamas, these main islands offer the perfect blend of sophisticated glamour.  The country’s capital city of Nassau is positioned on the island of New Providence and nearby Cable Beach (known as the “Bahamian Riviera”) represents one of the most popular destinations anywhere in the region. Choose between intimate boutique hotels or sprawling luxury resorts (like the new Baha Mar properties) for your Bahamian beach wedding. Indulge in exciting casinos and upscale nightlife or enjoy a romantic tour of old Nassau in a private horse-drawn carriage.

With a bridge connecting Nassau to Paradise Island, it makes the saying “cross the bridge and enter paradise” perfectly appropriate. Above all, the Atlantis Resort, which dominates the skyline, is sure to take your breath away. It also features one of the world’s largest outdoor aquariums, home to over 50,000 marine creatures. Paradise Island is the departure point for the dolphin and sea lion encounters at Blue Lagoon and the exhilarating powerboat adventures to the Exuma Cays.

Most importantly, don’t forget to leave some time for a more romantic rendezvous. Love is always in the air at the 14th century Augustinian Cloisters and Versailles-styled Gardens Walk at the Ocean Club.
