Chic Bahamas Year in Review

updates on the islands

Updates on the islands. Another year is in our rearview mirror, and we’ve welcomed 2022 with open arms. But the past year bestowed its Bahama blessings on us and on those couples I helped plan destination weddings for.

It may be April already (where does the time go?!), but it’s never too late to share some information and inspiration.

Below, you’ll find a few updates on the islands, what’s going on with COVID travel, some lessons learned over the past year, and the beautiful things I’m grateful for.

Travel to the Bahamas

Travel to the Bahamas has rebounded, and tourism arrivals increase monthly throughout the Bahama Islands.

The islands of New Providence, Abaco, Exuma, and Eleuthera lead the way in a fast-paced tourism rebound.

Chic Bahamas Weddings & Events continues to see increased demand for destination weddings, particularly on the islands of Exuma, Eleuthera, Harbor Island, Spanish Wells, and Abaco.

Covid-19 protocols continue to be relaxed. Due to declining cases and international protocol adjustments, the Bahamas government has relaxed the after-arrival Covid-19 testing mandate.

Therefore, the Bahamas no longer require a post-travel test generally taken on the fifth (5) day after arrival, regardless of the individual’s vaccination status.

You can read more in-depth Covid-19 travel requirements in our post Hosting Your Bahamas Destination Wedding in 2022.

As far as overall tourism goes, the Out Islands of the Bahamas fared particularly well, as COVID cases there were minimal. Visitors flocked to these islands to feel safe.

We also learned that there’s pent-up demand for travel, and couples still want to marry in the Bahamas. After two years of cancelations and postponements, people are ready to celebrate in a big way. Even if the celebration is intimate, only a select number of friends and family are near. Couples want to make up for lost time and treat themselves and their precious guests to a getaway that everyone will cherish forever.

Destination wedding guests have traveled long distances from Asia and Europe to share memorable moments with couples. Everyone’s hearts are filled with wanderlust! You can see one wedding that Chic Bahamas planned for a couple who had to postpone their wedding by one year. But I made it worth the wait! They opted for a multi-day celebration at the Four Seasons Ocean Club and had a beautiful Bahamian time with their nearest and dear.
