So, you’ve decided on the Bahamas for your destination wedding. Hooray! A destination welcome party is a must. Welcome to our Island- a slice of Caribbean paradise where time moves a little slower and we can escape from the chaos of everyday life.
If you’re hosting your big day in The Bahamas, you’re likely planning to host multiple events to celebrate. While the wedding is obviously the main event, you may want to plan for a welcome dinner too (and perhaps a farewell brunch).
So, let’s talk about the difference between a welcome dinner and a rehearsal dinner, and if you need both, or if one will suffice!
Destination Welcome Party Dinner

Gathering all of your out-of-town guests to welcome them to your wedding weekend! Although it is similar to a reception, it is usually a bit more casual. While entertainment is often included, it’s not meant to be the “everyone on the dance floor” party that your reception will be. Steel drums, acoustic guitars or a Junkanoo presentation is perfect for a welcome party!

If you’ve been torn about wedding design/style, a welcome party is a great opportunity to experiment with your ideas.
Rehearsal Dinner

Usually reserved for those who will participate or take part in the wedding day. Your bridal party, your immediate family members and a select number of out-of-town guests. Immediately follows your wedding rehearsal. Can be casual or formal, but the “rule of thumb” is that not every guest is included. Toasts are often given by members of your family that won’t be included in the speeches at the reception.
Some couples will forego the rehearsal dinner, hosting the welcome dinner in lieu of having two separate events. If you want to extend your festivities, a destination wedding weekend with multiple gatherings with maximize your time with family and friends.
